Bob Ollier Chairman of Anglia in Bloom said;

“The Anglia in Bloom communities across the six counties of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk & Suffolk should be justifiably proud of this year’s achievements

This year standards have continued on from last year with excellent awards achieved, the outstanding community work, many resourceful projects and superb colourful displays have all added to these standards, with 36 Gold, 30 Silver Gilt, 18 Silver, 3 Bronze awarded”

“The key to success has again been “Community involvement” where everyone gets involved and pulls together and then delivers great projects, communities are also recognising the importance of sustainable displays coupled with good horticultural standards and delivering outstanding floral displays, these are all achieved through the support from sponsors and community groups engaged across the region, who are all dedicated to enhancing their community within Anglia in Bloom’s Prestigious Environmental Campaign”

“I congratulate all the communities and neighbourhoods in the East of England, for the enthusiasm, commitment and effort made to improve, develop and sustain local environments across our region, it is a great credit to you all, Well Done

“With 36 Gold Awards this year, the results were very close, but Halstead have just nudged victory this year with several other entrants knocking on their door for the prestigious title of Best Overall Entry”

"The 2017 RHS Britain in Bloom finalists from the Anglia in Bloom region will be announced at our autumn seminar to be held on Thursday 27th October at Otley College, near Ipswich see our website diary for more details and book your place"

George Dawson Chair of judges Said

“I would also add my best wishes to and congratulations to not only the award winners but to everyone who took part in this year’s campaign. A community is a winner as soon as it enters into the campaign. No matter what the British climate throws at us the entrants in Anglia in Bloom take it all in their stride and make the areas where they live better places Well done, may it long continue.

The campaign is not only about flowers as the name In Bloom would suggest. Many different elements are judged, environmental quality, community involvement, biodiversity and the involvement of young people to name but a few, I would suggest that one of the definitions of In Bloom is to flourish and if all the various elements of the judging criteria are done well then so will the entry.

I, like Bob add my thanks to all the people who have helped to make 2016 a successful year. I hope we can continue to expand on our entries in 2017, as we firmly believe in what the ‘in Bloom’ does. The Anglia region can only benefit if more people participate, if any community is interested in finding out more information or would like to receive a presentation on what the In Bloom can do for your community then please contact either Bob or myself, and we would be pleased to visit your community and give a presentation on Anglia In Bloom to your Community”

Brian Thornton President of Anglia in Bloom Said

“We have said on many occasions that the moment that a community takes the decision to enter the Anglia in Bloom campaign, the Village, Town, City or Coastal Resort becomes a winner.

Our campaign is all about community participation with a great number of organisations working together. The more organisations that are part of the local In Bloom Team the easier will be the workload. For example if local Authorities, Businesses, Youth Organisations, Schools and Professional Organisations and of course the dedicated team of volunteers who are the main stay are all taking part work can be delegated and great things can be achieved in the form of floral displays, environmental schemes cleanliness of the areas and much more.

In this our 20th Anniversary, we have planned a special programme to entertain delegates attending from the six counties. Of course the main part of the programme consists of the Special and Category awards. More improvements and new ideas are on the cards for the future to help teams to achieve the magical Gold Award.

Because we are a charity we rely upon our patrons and sponsors, without them we could not stage this sparkling ceremony. My thanks go out to the many sponsors that support us”
